We have compiled a list of frequently asked questions that we receive from our customers. If you need any further help or advice, please do not hesitate to contact us and we'll be happy to help.

Q.Can I install a stainless steel extinguisher in my hotel?

A.Yes, you can install stainless steel extinguishers in your hotel. All our extinguishers are certified with the CE mark. We recommend that you check your insurance documentation to ensure that you are not required to install extinguishers in accordance with BS EN3, which would refer to the traditional red extinguisher. Should this be the case many insurance companies are happy to change this clause on request.

Q.Will the Dorgard release automatically at night?

A.Yes, you can programme the Dorgard to close automatically at night. Once the pre-determined time has been selected the Dorgard will automatically release the plunger if open and close the door every night at the same time.

Q.Is it legal to hold a fire door open with the Dorgard?

A.Yes, Dorgard automatically lifts the plunger to release and close the fire door when the fire alarm sounds. As a result of this it is a legal way to hold fire doors open.

Q.I am about to open a new building and have no idea what fire regs I need to be aware of or what fire equipment and signage I should provide?

A.You should either carry out, or contract somebody to carry out a fire risk assessment. This “responsible person” will make note of what you need to have in place to ensure your premises is “fire safe”. You can also use a fire extinguisher company to carry out a site survey (usually free) to tell you what extinguisher you need and where they need to be fitted.

Q.I have just bought a premises and wish to rent it out, but who’s responsible for the fire extinguishers that are in the buildings?

A.The law states that every building has a “responsible person” for fire safety and fire risk assessments. It would be your responsibility to either carry out the fire risk assessment, or appoint someone to carry out the fire risk assessment, and ensure that servicing of all fire safety products is maintained.

Q.What do I do about fitting fire extinguishers when I have a listed / protected building?

A.The best thing to do is use extinguisher stands. You can still site and sign the extinguishers in the position required but you won’t damage your walls. Henry Wolfe offer these stands in chrome finish or stainless steel

Q.In my hotel door closers are forever being misused and having to be replaced, is there anything I can do to stop this?

A.People are often intrigued by door closers and tampering with them can be rife. The best solution is to use a concealed unit that doesn’t stand out but does the same job. We have a range that are both discreet and functional and are sure to last the test of time. See or designer fire door holders and closers
